Anticipation

There are good things happening this week.  Some are “big things” and some are “small things”.  But all are gifts, and I’m thankful.

Three of the things I’m looking forward to are:
1. Eating the first spring salad of the season.

This lettuce was planted during a warm snap in January (which feels like forever ago!) and has been growing ever so slowly since then.  Spring has been a long time in coming!  It has survived a big snowstorm and a small snowstorm sheltered in a little greenhouse.  “Greenhouse” is a bit deceptive a word for this structure though.  It’s just an small arch of fence wire about 18 inches high that’s covered with a clear plastic table cloth from the Dollar Tree.  Not so beautiful, but it works! J

2. Putting the last few stitches in two flower girl dress.

This Saturday there’s a big celebration happening!  I’m getting a new sister-in-law!  We’ve been getting ready for this wedding for quite a while now and it’s finally almost here.  My girls are so excited to see their dear Uncle Matt get married to a lady they love.  Kadence is a flower girl along with her cousin Skylynn and they are being walked down the aisle by the bride’s younger brother – Kadi is quite nervous about this walking with a BOY!  We’ve been picking out shoes and sewing dresses and things are almost ready.  I get to be the photographer for all the pictures before the wedding and then, once the ceremony starts I’m a family member and guest – I get the best of both worlds!!!

3. Planting my “babies”.

I’m hoping to transplant some of my vegetable plants into the garden this week.  They’ve been growing indoors under lights since I planted the seeds on a cold day back in March.  I love watching the tiny seeds pop open and little leaves emerge, and after weeks of waiting they’re big enough to grow outside where it’s warming up!  I actually get kind of attached to the little things;  broccoli, Chinese cabbage, kohlrabi, various pepper and tomatoes, tomatillos, and eggplant.  I'm dreaming of summer vegetables!

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.
See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth,
being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.
James 5:7

  1. Such a GORGEOUS dress and the lettuce makes me think I can *almost* taste it. Mine just got planted in the garden when it finally dried off enough about two weeks ago and we're seeing tiny green shoots. So exciting to see things grow! Best wishes with pictures! I'll be waiting anxiously to see them!

  3. oh, i like your creative & simple idea of a greenhouse! i just might have to do that myself; do you think lettuce will be able to withstand late winter temps w/ such little protection in pa?

    1. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try! It dips down pretty low here at times too. :)
